Museums.com respects the intellectual property rights of artists, creators, and copyright holders. We expect all users of our platform to do the same.
This Copyright & IP Policy explains how we handle intellectual property rights on Museums.com, how content ownership works, and how copyright infringement claims are processed.
Museums.com is a platform for artists, galleries, museums, and collectors to upload and display artwork, images, written descriptions, profiles, and other creative content.
By uploading content, users:
◉ Retain full ownership of their intellectual property
◉ Grant Museums.com a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, display, promote, distribute, and create derivative works from that content for the purpose of operating, marketing, and promoting the platform.
This license ends when the user deletes the content from their account or requests removal.
Museums.com prohibits the posting of content that infringes on any copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property right.
You may not:
◉ Upload artwork or images that you do not own or have permission to use
◉ Copy or reproduce another user's content without authorization
◉ Use the Museums.com platform to distribute pirated or plagiarized material
Users who repeatedly infringe upon others’ IP rights may have their accounts suspended or permanently banned.
Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), Museums.com provides a procedure for copyright owners to report allegedly infringing content hosted on our platform.
To file a DMCA takedown request, your notice must include:
◉ Your full name and contact information
◉ A description of the copyrighted work(s)
◉ A direct link (URL) to the allegedly infringing content
◉ A statement that you believe, in good faith, that the use is unauthorized
◉ A statement under penalty of perjury that the information in your notice is accurate
◉ Your electronic or physical signature
Send DMCA takedown notices to:

If your content was removed due to a DMCA notice and you believe it was taken down in error, you may submit a counter-notification including:
◉ Your name, address, and contact information
◉ A description of the removed content and where it appeared
◉ A statement under penalty of perjury that you believe the removal was mistaken
◉ Your consent to the jurisdiction of a U.S. Federal Court
◉ Your electronic or physical signature
We may restore the content if the original complainant does not initiate legal action within 10–14 business days.
For intellectual property claims outside the United States (trademarks, moral rights, or non-copyright issues), please email us at legal@museums.com with:
◉ A detailed description of the rights violated
◉ Documentation proving your ownership
◉ A link to the infringing content
We’ll investigate all good-faith complaints and take action as appropriate.
In accordance with the DMCA and platform best practices, Museums.com may terminate access for users who are the subject of multiple valid infringement claims, or who blatantly violate our IP policy.
